What if resistance is actually the good news?

Find Your Anchors, Then Learn to Fly

Resistance has a way of showing up right when things start to get good. This week, a single quote stopped me in my tracks and reminded me why that's actually a beautiful thing.

“To fly, we have to have resistance.” Maya Lin

Wow…. That quote nailed it this morning – in the best possible way!

How many times have we started something new, or have been on a journey and it started to get challenging, or tough and uncomfortable…..and we wanted to bail. To stop. To Give Up.

I don’t think it’s just me. And, honestly, I know it isn’t just me.

All the amazing women and men that I work with on a regular basis, feel this too. They want to live a full life that they love, where they feel engaged, inspired, and alive in work, relationships, hobbies… you name it!

And, most certainly, that resistance shows up. It always does.

It’s how we deal with it and dance with, that is key…..to what happens next.

I am learning to dance in a new way with my resistance that is showing up with my adventure of being fully self-employed. It is a joy. It is a trust fall. It is demanding my heart, my soul, and my courage.

When we do things that take us outside of our comfort zone, it is so important to find the anchors, the activities or practices that bring us back home to ourselves and lift us up!

What lights you up? What brings a smile or a giggle to your heart? What makes you feel like, YES…. I am fully capable and a badass – I CAN do this. I AM doing this!

What motivates you to keep going?

Your health. Your Family. Your Friends. Your Pets. Your Passions. Your Happiness. Your Goals.

On my journey, it requires me to lean into the things that light me up and fuel me from the inside out. Things that make me feel alive. Things that make me smile!

  • Moving my Body: Zumba, Walking in Nature, Strength Training
  • Listening to Music: All kinds…pending the mood. Music is a felt journey.
  • Meditation & Journaling: Connecting into the thoughts, emotions, and habits that are either serving me or holding me back. Meditation as a way to clear out the noise.
  • Talking with Friends & Family: Connecting with the people I love wholeheartedly to feel loved, inspired and given the hard truths when needed.
  • Coaching: Working with a coach is by far the most transformative and supportive process – Live EVER! I love my coaches and honor the space we enter into… so I can get clear on my BS and create new beliefs and habits to move me forward.
  • Rest: This one…… has been a journey. And it’s delicious. I went from feeling guilty, nervous, and shameful of sitting and doing nothing. Or just reading. This one is restorative.

What are your go-to practices or anchors for connecting back into your True Self?

I would love to hear – reply and share with me what you do. It doesn’t matter if you do it every day, sometimes, or when you remember… If it lights you up, it’s worth it!

If you are not sure and would love some help on that journey. I’m here for you. We don’t need to do this journey alone.

Wishing you a day where you get to FLY!!!!

Hi Reader, This past weekend I noticed something. I was on Fast Forward. I was rushing to pack up and leave. Rushing through the drive to the office while eating my breakfast at the same time. And then I caught myself... rushing, when there was absolutely no reason for it. Somewhere inside, that Fast Forward button had been pushed, maybe by accident, maybe out of habit. So I turned it off manually. A few deep breaths. Then I intentionally slowed down. I looked around while I was driving. I...

Hi Reader, Disconnection hides in plain sight. "It gets mistaken for ordinary life, which is why so few of us notice we've left." Ooofff.... "...so few of us notice we've left." I read that line this morning and felt it land in my stomach, my heart, and then a full exhale. You know that feeling, when something hits you at a visceral level? It came from an email by Sean Fargo, a meditation teacher I follow, describing his interview with Qigong Master Mingtong Gu. (His new book, Coming Home to...

Hi Reader, Over the last couple of weeks, I have been inspired by my clients, through 1:1 work and in the group workshop. Inspired by hearing them go through life situations where they listen to what is right for them, and what might be wrong for them…or in other words, what is aligned or not aligned with their values and beliefs. And then taking action from that awareness instead of out of automatic habit. What I have been seeing and hearing, is them taking a stand for themselves, by saying...
